Publish in Crowded Places

Substack is cool but it's like a living room instead of a park. Let me explain.

It’s different. You know it is.

I've made a podcast for two years and a half. 3 people on avarage listen each episode. I have technically put my work out there in the world. But just technically.

Making content for podcasts/blogs or Twitter/YouTube is technically publishing. But so different in nature, scope, and potential. They are technically the same but actually not similar at all.

Publishing your podcast is akin to writing a book, printing it and then leaving it in your living room.

Sure, you technically put your work out there in the world but you placed it in a place where only very few people can see it.

Publish in crowded places.

If I publish a blogpost my writings are technically out there. People can read my ideas. But only in the theoretical sense because there is no real way for someone to find them.

I propose that you are writing in public only if people know your work exists.

It's scarier but so much more worth it:
publish in crowded places.
