This is How You Win On The Internet (And Everywhere Else). It's Not About Time, it's Iterations!
This is the superpower you've been waiting for. How long will it take? It has nothing to do with time.
You can do lots of things.
For a very long time.
But if they’re not effective…
You are not going to achieve your dreams.
How long you take to achieve your goals has nothing to do with time.
It’s all about iterations.
What are iterations?
Repetitions are different than iterations.
Repetitions (like the name implies) mean you do the same thing over and over again.
Iterations mean doing things a little bit different each time. A little bit better.
Iterations are improvements.
You can do something for years and don't get anywhere
Like my podcast hehe.
I’ve had a podcast for nearly 3 years. The last episode was heard by 8 people. Mmmm not a lot of progress, right? That was kind of the idea. Just me, a mic, my thoughts, and a couple of people.
But that’s the thing, I’ve experienced this first hand. Just because time passes it doesn’t mean you grow or change or improve. The podcast has mostly stayed the same. I’ve been making repetitions, not iterations.
If you want to make your dreams come true you cannot simply make repetitions.
It’s like baseball.
If you hit the ball up and never forward... it doesn't matter how many times you hit the ball, it's literally impossible to get a home run. No matter how much time passes. No matter how many times you hit.
Hit the ball forward, not up.
You should measure *in iterations* how fast you’ll reach your goal
It's not time, it's number of iterations.
That's insane. When I heard this I felt like I could see the matrix. This is the cheat code to get what you want.
Time doesn't matter. It's the number of iterations that get you the results.
If you practice karate every day you will improve much faster than someone who practices once a week. It doesn’t matter that both have practiced for 3 months. Time is not relevant, iterations are.
This realization gives you agency. Instead of just passively waiting for results, you focus on iterations and control your progress.
Even if you want to take it slow you can predict more accurately how much time it’s going to take to achieve the result you want.
You need feedback to know if it's working or not
With repetitions, you do the same thing every time.
“Dude you should totally d-”
Sorry, not interested.
“Maybe if you changed…”
No thank you.
“…”
I don’t hear any feedback, I must be doing great!
Yeah.. no.
Feedback is scary and painful but really useful. It allows you to do an iteration instead of repetition.
It’s the key distinction between repetitions and iterations.
Don’t do things blindly or in a vacuum.
Don’t write in your blog. Publish on Twitter! Don’t play guitar in your room, go to a music class! Don’t paint in secret, show your friends! Don’t bring the same products every time, see which sells the best!
You’ll be so much happier if you make iterations instead of repetitions.
Iterations are your new superpower
Now you know the secret.
The key.
You’ve just acquired a superpower.
So cool.
Now when you think about how long it will take to reach your dreams and goals promise me you’ll think in number of iterations.
Promise me.
With great power comes great responsibility.
Have a wondrous day.
Oye Peter Parker!
